For the last 10 years, my ethnographical research is based on performance & narrative apparatuses.\u00a0For Sounding Bodies<\/em>,<\/strong> I developed an experimental research program for migrant children staying at a Red Cross shelter in Paris. Throughout a series of workshops, I invited them to collect sounds.\u00a0I then conceived an apparatus for motion sensors to play [with] and perform soundscapes.\u00a0What kind of sounds have they collected? And how did their body manifest a soundscape?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two concepts are at work in my essay:\u00a0The one of cosmophanies<\/em>, described by the French geographer Augustin Berque,\u00a0and the other of ethnoscapes,<\/em> defined by the Indian anthropologist Arjun Appadurai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The word cosmophany<\/em> refers to the Greek Cosmos and to the verb \u03c6\u03b1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9 (phain\u00f2), which means: \u201cto manifest, to appear, to be obvious\u201d.\u00a0Cosmophany<\/em> is the way in which the world appears to those who observe it.\u00a0Related to the act of migration, ethnoscapes<\/em> are those landscapes that migrants recompose with their communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If, to every individual corresponds a way of seeing, <\/em>and the ethnoscapes<\/em> are formed by moving groups, rose at a fundamental level, my research question could be such: How do people resonate with sounds?\u00a0Resonate in the sense of moving, playing, acting, making decisions throughout one’s life.\u00a0The other pending question would be: how to transmit sound perception?\u00a0In other words: How can we imagine designing a sound environment for a better future?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
